Carnaval de La Guaira in La Guaira
Carnaval de La Guaira is a coastal carnival centered on the beach town of Macuto in La Guaira state, combining Afro-Venezuelan, indigenous and Spanish colonial influences. Since 2002 it has grown into an organized tourist celebration with float parades, queen elections and beach-based dance festivals drawing large numbers of visitors from Caracas and beyond.
La Guaira's carnival grew out of the coastal region's long identity as Venezuela's principal Caribbean port, a place where enslaved Africans, Spanish colonists and indigenous communities intersected for centuries before their blended cultural practices became the coastal carnival celebrated today.
