Diablos Danzantes de Naiguata in Naiguata
Diablos Danzantes de Naiguata is a Corpus Christi devil-dancing brotherhood in the coastal town of Naiguata in La Guaira state, one of eleven Venezuelan cofradias recognized by UNESCO in 2012, distinguished as the only brotherhood that still hand-paints its costumes and dances outside the church without entering it.
On the Thursday of Corpus Christi, communities across coastal and central Venezuela stage a ritual dance in which costumed devils appear to challenge the sanctity of the church before ultimately submitting to the Blessed Sacrament, a devotional performance rooted in a mixture of indigenous, European and African traditions.
