Fiestas de la Candelaria de Turmero in Turmero
Fiestas de la Candelaria de Turmero is the patron saint feast of Turmero, Aragua state, held each February 2 in honor of the Virgin of Candelaria, whose devotion was brought to Venezuela by Canary Islands immigrant families in the late seventeenth century and formally recognized in Turmero as the city's patron saint tradition.
Turmero, in Venezuela's agricultural Aragua state valley, holds the Virgin of Candelaria as its formally recognized patron saint, part of a devotional network that spread across the country after a considerable wave of Canary Islands families settled in Venezuela during the final third of the seventeenth century and carried their patroness's cult with them to the communities where they established themselves.
