Festival de Joropo Tuyero in Valles del Tuy
Festival de Joropo Tuyero brings dancers, harpists, and cuatro players from schools across the Valles del Tuy to Santa Lucia del Tuy for a student-driven celebration of joropo tuyero, the close-hold, syncopated dance style native to Miranda state. Organized through local schools and held in the town's central plaza, the gathering pairs youth dance and music competitions with craft stalls and regional cooking.
In the plaza of Santa Lucia del Tuy, in the hill country south of Caracas, the diatonic harp sets a fast triple-time pulse and pairs of dancers snap into a close embrace, feet stamping a rapid zapateo against the paving stones.
