Dong Da Festival in Hanoi
Đống Đa Festival commemorates Emperor Quang Trung's 1789 Ngọc Hồi–Đống Đa victory on the fifth day of the first lunar month. A ceremonial route from Khương Thượng to Đống Đa Mound combines incense offerings, palanquins, drums and historical recitation. Its unmistakable emblem is the Thăng Long fire dragon, traditionally built from straw, leaf sheaths and paper and danced as a symbol of victory.
A straw-and-paper fire dragon turns a military commemoration into the defining image of Hanoi's Đống Đa Festival.
