Vimbuza Ceremony in Lundazi
The Vimbuza Ceremony, held each December under Senior Chief Magodi, celebrates the Vimbuza spirit-healing dance tradition of the Tumbuka people. Zambia's official ceremony records place it in Chasefu District, historically part of the wider Lundazi area of Eastern Province, closing out a season of related Tumbuka observances that begins with Zengani in October.
The Vimbuza Ceremony is held every December in the Chasefu area of Eastern Province, under the authority of Senior Chief Magodi, whose chieftaincy also hosts the related Zengani ceremony in October and Muganda ceremony in November, making the district a hub of connected Tumbuka cultural events running through the closing months of the year.
