HIFA, the Harare International Festival of the Arts, is a week-long festival held in Harare each late April or early May, showcasing theatre, music, dance, fine art and poetry. When Manuel Bagorro launched the Harare International Festival of the Arts in 1999, Zimbabwe's cultural calendar gained an event built on an unusual premise: instead of anchoring itself to a single art form, HIFA would run five disciplines side by side across one concentrated week, folding theatre, music, dance, fine art and poetry into a single citywide programme.
