Marie Kraja International Festival of Operatic Singers in Tirana
Albania's sole internationally recognized opera competition, established in 1999 in honour of soprano Marie Kraja, drawing roughly 180 to 200 singers from four continents in recent editions and launching careers including tenor Josif Gjipali and soprano Evis Mula. Its consistent four-continent draw gives Tirana a genuinely international operatic showcase each spring.
The International Festival of Operatic Singers 'Marie Kraja' stands as Albania's sole internationally recognized operatic competition, established in 1999 shortly after the death of Marie Kraja, the Austrian-educated Albanian soprano the festival honours, at the age of 88.
