Ahaggar Cultural Festival in Ahaggar/Hoggar
A regional cultural festival spanning the Hoggar or Ahaggar highlands, a roughly 550,000 square kilometer volcanic massif home to Algeria's highest peak and the Kel Ahaggar Tuareg, drawing on sites across the range including Tin Hinan's ancestral tomb at Abalessa and the Assekrem plateau, distinct from Tamanrasset's more city-centered Tuareg festival.
The Hoggar Mountains, also known as the Ahaggar, form a highland region covering roughly 550,000 square kilometers in the central Sahara, home to Mount Tahat, Algeria's highest peak at 2,908 meters, and to the Kel Ahaggar Tuareg, who have called this volcanic massif Assekrem, meaning the end of the world, for at least two thousand years.
