Batna Aures Festival in Batna/Aures
A regional festival in Batna, administrative hub of the Aures Mountains, celebrating Chaoui Berber culture through the Rahaba collective dance, fantasia horsemanship, traditional clothing and craft demonstrations in leatherwork, weaving, pottery and wood carving, rooted in a mountain community with millennia of documented resistance and continuity.
Batna province sits within the Aures Mountains, the eastern extension of the Saharan Atlas and the historic homeland of the Chaoui, an indigenous Berber people who speak Tachawit, a Zenati-branch Berber language, and who have inhabited this rugged terrain as semi-nomadic shepherds and farmers for centuries.
