Ould Abderrahmane Kaki, a pioneering figure in Algerian theatre who transformed popular oral expression into a genuine stage language rooted in local culture, founded the National Amateur Theatre Festival of Mostaganem in September 1967, an event now widely described as the oldest continuously running festival of its kind at the Arab and African scale.
