The Tiaret Horse Festival celebrates Algeria's high-plains equestrian tradition, centered on the historic National Stud Farm of Chaouchaoua, one of the country's oldest and most prestigious breeding centers for Arab-Barb horses. Events include fantasia cavalry displays, horse races and breeding exhibitions rooted in over a century of organized horsemanship.
Tiaret sits on Algeria's high plains, a plateau region between the coastal Tell Atlas and the Sahara that has supported horse breeding for centuries, reaching back to the era when the city served as capital of the Rustamid Kingdom in the eighth and ninth centuries.
