Tipaza Roman Heritage Festival in Tipaza
A summer heritage festival staged among the Phoenician, Roman, early Christian and Byzantine ruins of Tipaza, a UNESCO World Heritage Site on Algeria's Mediterranean coast inscribed in 1982, combining cultural programming and performance with direct access to the site's ancient forum, theatre, baths and basilicas.
Phoenician sailors first settled Tipaza as early as the sixth century BCE, and the site went on to become a Roman colony, an early Christian center by the third century, and later a Byzantine outpost, layering roughly a millennium of Mediterranean civilizations into the ruins that UNESCO inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1982.
