National Tonada Festival in Tunuyan

A long-running Mendoza folk-music festival founded in 1972 and dedicated specifically to the tonada cuyana, a regional guitar-based song form with Andean and Andalusian roots. Multiple nights of performances fill Tunuyán's municipal amphitheater, mixing major touring folk artists with specialists in a genre rarely given its own stage elsewhere.

Víctor Humberto Pizarro founded this festival in 1972 specifically to give a single Cuyo musical form its own stage, at a time when most Argentine folk festivals lumped every regional genre together.
