Adelaide Guitar Festival in Adelaide
Adelaide Guitar Festival brought together classical, rock, flamenco and blues guitarists for a biennial celebration at the Adelaide Festival Centre, mixing free riverside performances with ticketed theatre concerts. Founded in 2007 and long guided by classical guitarist Slava Grigoryan, it built a reputation for pairing international headliners with local talent across a ten-day spring program of concerts, masterclasses and youth showcases beside the River Torrens.
Douglas Gautier dreamed up a guitar festival for Adelaide after crossing paths with the founder of New York's guitar festival, and in 2007 the Adelaide Festival Centre staged the first edition, drawing tens of thousands of visitors to a genre-crossing celebration of the six-string instrument.
