Noosa Triathlon in Noosa
Noosa's flagship multisport event pairs a 1500m swim in Laguna Bay with a 40km bike leg and 10km run, drawing thousands of age-group athletes alongside elite professionals each year. Held since 1983, it anchors a five-day festival of junior races, fun runs and community events that fills the Sunshine Coast town with a lycra-clad, laid-back energy.
When Olympic swimmer turned promoter David Power and boxer Joe Gilbert teamed up with the Noosa Heads Lions Club in 1983, they could not have guessed their modest race for 180 athletes would grow into the world's largest Olympic-distance triathlon.
