City2Surf Sydney in Sydney
City2Surf is a 14-kilometre fun run from Sydney's CBD to Bondi Beach, held each August since 1971 and now one of the largest running events in the world with around 80,000 participants. The course's defining challenge is Heartbreak Hill, a sustained climb through the eastern suburbs, while the event's mix of elite runners, costumed fun-runners and charity walkers gives it a festive, inclusive character.
City2Surf began in 1971 when The Sun-Herald newspaper organised a fun run from Sydney's CBD to Bondi Beach, and what started with a modest field of runners has grown into one of the largest running events in the world, drawing around 80,000 participants each year to a 14-kilometre course that has become a fixture of the Sydney sporting calendar.
