Since 1973, Tamworth's local radio station-born festival has grown into one of the world's largest country music gatherings, running roughly ten days each January. Peel Street fills with buskers, Toyota Park hosts major concerts, and hundreds of pub and park shows accompany the Golden Guitar Awards, Australia's top country music honours, presented in a bronze, cutaway-guitar trophy first awarded to Joy McKean in 1973.
