Salzburg Marathon in Salzburg
The Salzburg Marathon has run each May since 2004, building on a half marathon tradition dating to 2001, on a flat 21.097-kilometer loop covered once or twice depending on distance. The course starts at the Staatsbruecke and passes Schloss Hellbrunn, Schloss Leopoldskron, and Schloss Mirabell before finishing in the old town in front of the Grosses Festspielhaus, alongside views of Mozart's birthhouse and Hohensalzburg Fortress.
The Salzburg Marathon has run each year since 2004, actively backed by the city from its first edition, and it built on a half marathon distance that had already been held annually since 2001, giving Salzburg a longer running-event tradition than the full marathon's own history suggests.
