Take the A-Train Festival in Salzburg
A jazz-centered festival staged since 2015 in and around Salzburg's main train station, spreading more than thirty concerts and performances across upwards of fifteen unconventional venues in the surrounding Elisabeth-Vorstadt district, with roughly half the program free to attend, offering a contemporary, street-level counterpoint to the city's grander, more famous Salzburg Festival programming.
Named for the Duke Ellington jazz standard, Salzburg's train-station-district festival has spent more than a decade staging concerts in spaces never designed for them, scattered around the city's Hauptbahnhof rather than inside a conventional concert hall or festival tent.
