ImPulsTanz Vienna International Dance Festival in Vienna
ImPulsTanz has run since 1984 as Vienna's five-week contemporary dance festival, combining hundreds of professional workshops at the Arsenal with a performance program of dozens of productions at the city's major theatres. Free outdoor Public Moves classes open the workshop culture to casual passersby as well.
Karl Regensburger and choreographer Ismael Ivo launched what became ImPulsTanz in 1984 as the International Dance Weeks Vienna, a modest program of twenty workshops taught by six teachers at a university sports center -- a far cry from the five-week citywide festival it grew into.
