The story

Khari Bulbul Folklore Days in Shusha

Named for the khari bulbul orchid that flowers on Shusha's slopes each May, this festival was founded in 1989, suspended for decades after Shusha fell in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and revived from 2021 under the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Expect mugham, national dance and folk ensemble performances staged across the town rather than one stage.

The festival takes its name from the khari bulbul, a small wild orchid that flowers on Shusha's slopes each May and has become close to an official symbol of the town.
