Wangala Festival in Madhupur/Netrokona/Mymensingh

Wangala is the Garo community's harvest thanksgiving to the sun god Misi Saljong, marked with drumming and dance in Garo villages around Madhupur, Netrokona and Mymensingh. Unlike the larger staged Hundred Drums version across the border in Meghalaya, Bangladesh's Wangala gatherings are small, community-hosted and set on dates each village chooses individually.

Garo drummers in Madhupur and Netrokona play in call-and-response through Wangala, a harvest thanksgiving addressed to Misi Saljong, the Garo sun god credited with the year's crop, distinguishing it from Bangladesh's more widely known Bengali harvest festivals such as Nabanna.
