Jamdani Festival in Narayanganj/Rupganj
Centered on the Jamdani-weaving villages of Sonargaon, Rupganj and Siddhirganj, this festival pairs live loom demonstrations with an exhibition of finished saris, a seminar on the craft's history, and a Mastercraftspersons award for individual weavers. It's the clearest way to see the UNESCO-listed, hand-thrown discontinuous-weft technique at its actual source.
Weavers taking part in the Jamdani Festival are supplied with khadi yarn and asked to reproduce historic muslin-era patterns, a deliberate attempt by the organizers to push the craft back toward the fineness it had under Mughal patronage.
