National Heroes Day Celebrations Barbados in Bridgetown/parishes
National Heroes Day, 28 April, honors Barbados's eleven National Heroes with a ceremony and wreath-laying at National Heroes Square in Bridgetown, followed by food stalls, music and games in the surrounding streets. It combines a short formal commemoration with a looser afternoon community gathering centred on the same square.
National Heroes Day was first observed on 28 April 1998, chosen because it was the hundredth anniversary of the birth of Sir Grantley Adams, one of ten Barbadians named the country's first National Heroes that year under the newly passed Order of National Heroes Act.
