Fetes de Wallonie Namur in Namur
Fetes de Wallonie is Namur's flagship civic festival, most famous for the centuries-old Combat de l'Echasse d'Or, stilt jousting between two historic city teams. Held around the third weekend of September, it blends folk costume, processions, brass bands and fireworks with an unmistakably local, non-touristy character, suiting travelers drawn to regional identity more than a concert lineup.
Fifty stilt-walkers in yellow-and-black or red-and-white sashes try to shove each other into the dirt of Place Saint-Aubain, a joust Namur has staged since at least 1411 and now protected as UNESCO intangible heritage.
