Belize National Song Competition in Belize City
Belize's National Song Competition requires every entry to be an original song by a Belizean artist, judged across categories including Belize Song, Carnival Song and a Junior category for under-18 songwriters. Running since around 2009 and sponsored by NICH's Institute of Creative Arts, it traditionally kicks off the September Celebrations season with live performances and prize money reaching 20,000 Belize dollars.
Belize's National Song Competition asks something most music contests do not: every entry has to be an original song, written by a Belizean artist, rather than a cover or an adaptation, which makes the competition as much a songwriting incubator as a performance showcase.
