Druk Wangyel Tshechu in Dochula Pass

Druk Wangyel Tshechu was established in 2011 at Dochula Pass to honor Bhutan's Fourth King and the Royal Bhutan Army for the December 2003 operation against insurgent camps in the south. Held each December beside the pass's 108 memorial chortens, it breaks from tradition by having many dances performed by serving or retired soldiers rather than monks, making it Bhutan's newest and most overtly modern tshechu.

Dochula Pass already carried memory before Druk Wangyel Tshechu existed: in 2004, Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck had 108 chortens built there in three tiered rings to honor Bhutanese soldiers killed in December 2003, when the Fourth King personally led the Royal Bhutan Army against militant camps operating in the country's south.
