Jhomolhari Mountain Festival in Jomolhari area
Beneath sacred Mount Jomolhari, on the border with Tibet, highland yak-herding families from the Soe area gather each October for a smaller trekking-route festival built around archery, horsemanship, and yak-related traditions rather than dzong-style masked dance. Held well above 4,000 meters along one of Bhutan's best-known trekking corridors, it doubles as a cultural stop and an altitude-acclimatization pause for trekkers on the Jomolhari route.
Mount Jomolhari rises 7,326 meters along the Bhutan-Tibet border, revered as the dwelling place of the protective goddess Jomo, and the high pastures beneath it are seasonally home to yak-herding communities from Soe and the wider Jomolhari trekking corridor inside Jigme Dorji National Park.
