Chiquitos Missions Festival in Chiquitos
The Festival Internacional de Musica Renacentista y Barroca Americana Misiones de Chiquitos is staged across Santa Cruz, the Jesuit Missions and Tarija, rooted in the Chiquitos missions built between 1691 and 1767, where over 5,500 sheets of 17th- and 18th-century sacred music were discovered. First held in 1996, the 15th edition ran April 17-26, 2026, with more than 130 concerts and over 1,000 artists from 16 countries.
Each year, the festival built around the Misiones de Chiquitos returns to a story that began not with a modern festival organizer but with an archival discovery: more than 5,500 sheets of sacred music, composed in the Renaissance and Baroque styles and dating to the 17th and 18th centuries, had survived inside the Jesuit mission towns of Chiquitos, built between 1691 and 1767.
