Orchid Festival Concepcion in Concepcion
Concepcion, one of Bolivia's restored Jesuit mission towns in the Chiquitania, has run its Festival de la Orquidea every October since 2001, built around the Cattleya nobilior orchid native to the surrounding forest. Exhibitions pair orchid displays with Chiquitano weaving and woodcarving workshops, Baroque music concerts and traditional dance. Now recognized as part of Bolivia's cultural and natural patrimony, it works well combined with a visit to Concepcion's UNESCO-listed mission church.
Concepcion is one of the best-preserved Jesuit mission towns of Bolivia's Chiquitania, and since 2001 it has built an October festival around the orchid that grows wild in the surrounding forest.
