Khawa Dune Challenge and Cultural Festival in Khawa
Khawa Dune Challenge and Cultural Festival combines off-road motorsport, quad and bike racing across the Kgalagadi desert dunes with craft markets, traditional dance and food stalls in the small village of Khawa, deep in Botswana's southwestern Kalahari. Hosted by the Botswana Tourism Organisation alongside government and motorsport partners, it has grown into a flagship weekend on the country's tourism calendar, launching a youth racing academy alongside the main competitions.
Khawa is a small settlement roughly 167 kilometers southwest of Tsabong, deep in the Kgalagadi District where Botswana's portion of the Kalahari Desert rises into red dune country, and for one weekend each year it becomes the improbable center of the country's off-road motorsport calendar.
