Dithubaruba Cultural Festival in Molepolole/Ntsweng
Dithubaruba Cultural Festival gathers the Bakwena nation at Ntsweng, the abandoned hilltop capital above Molepolole, to reenact the battles and history that shaped their settlement in the Kweneng region. Organized around the Kgosi Sechele I Museum and usually held in September, it combines historical reenactment, traditional dance, praise poetry and food around the ruins where Bakwena chiefs once ruled.
Ntsweng is a hill on the edge of Molepolole where the Bakwena people built their capital in the nineteenth century under leaders including Kgosi Sechele I, a figure remembered both for resisting Boer incursions from the Transvaal and for his complicated relationship with early missionaries, including David Livingstone.
