Afropunk Brasil in Rio de Janeiro
Afropunk Brasil brings the Brooklyn festival's Black-culture blueprint to Brazil, pairing hip-hop, funk and samba-reggae acts with a crowd that treats fashion as part of the performance. Launched in Salvador, Bahia in 2022, the festival has since also staged editions in Rio de Janeiro, so the host city can change year to year. Expect a late-running night built around sound, color and collective presence rather than a fixed program.
Afropunk Brasil grew out of the original Brooklyn festival's mission to give Black alternative culture a stage of its own, and it chose Bahia for its Brazilian debut because Salvador is widely regarded as the cultural capital of Afro-Brazilian life.
