Pleven Guitar Festival in Pleven

Founded and directed by classical guitarist Nikolay Mihaylov, this five-day winter competition and concert series in Pleven splits its jury contest into six age categories and now draws entrants from across Europe, Latin America and Asia. Alongside the competition, expect master classes, a guitar and instrument-maker exhibition, and evening concerts spanning classical to flamenco and fingerstyle repertoire. It has grown into one of Europe's more substantial guitar festivals despite its unglamorous host city.

Nikolay Mihaylov, a classical guitarist and film composer, founded this competition-and-concert series in Pleven and still directs it as artistic director, running it through the Art by My Side association together with the LIK-1959 community center.
