Bulgarian Folklore Festival Plovdiv in Plovdiv
Plovdiv's International Folklore Festival fills late July with free daily parades, open-air concerts and evening shows inside the Ancient Theatre, the city's restored Roman amphitheatre. Hosted by the local ensemble Trakia and running for three decades, it draws visiting folk companies from multiple continents; past editions have included ensembles from Georgia, Mexico and Peru. All three daily components are open to the public at no cost.
Parades through Plovdiv's Old Town open each day of the International Folklore Festival at half past five in the afternoon, building toward open-air concerts and then evening performances inside the Ancient Theatre, the restored Roman amphitheatre carved into the hillside above the old quarter.
