Pirin Sings Folklore Festival in Predel/Razlog
Pirin Sings gathers performers of southwestern Bulgaria's regional folklore on the mountain-pass meadows at Predel, between the Pirin and Rila ranges near Razlog. Founded in 1962 by musicologist Ilia Manolov and shut down under state policy in 1985, it was revived in 1997 and now runs on a more frequent cycle, with singing, instrumental music, dance and regional costume built specifically around Pirin, not a national folklore sample.
Musicologist Ilia Manolov gathered about 3,000 performers, mostly singers from the Pirin Macedonia region, on the meadows at Predel in 1962, in what became the founding edition of the sabor now known as Pirin Sings.
