Sofia Music Weeks in Sofia
Bulgaria's longest-running international classical music festival, held across Sofia each May and June since its first edition on 24 May 1970. Programming spans full orchestral concerts, opera and chamber recitals in venues including the National Palace of Culture and Bulgaria Hall, with a guest list over the decades that has included the Vienna, Berlin and Leningrad Philharmonic orchestras and soloists such as Leonid Kogan and Alexis Weissenberg.
The Vienna, Berlin and Leningrad Philharmonic orchestras have all performed under the banner of Sofia Music Weeks since it opened its first edition on 24 May 1970, building a booking record unusual for a festival outside Western Europe's traditional concert circuit.
