Varna Summer International Theatre Festival in Varna
Varna Summer International Theatre Festival began in 1993 with Bulgarian productions only, expanding into a full international programme after 1995. Run by the Via Fest Foundation with the Ministry of Culture and Varna Municipality, it now bills itself as Bulgaria's largest international theatre event, filling roughly ten June days with four programming tracks: Bulgarian selections, international selections, an industry-facing Theatre Showcase, and an accompanying workshop and talks programme.
Varna Summer International Theatre Festival began in 1993 as a showcase of selected Bulgarian productions only, and it was not until after 1995 that organizers opened it into a genuinely international forum with accompanying workshops, exhibitions, conferences, and seminars.
