FITMO Ouagadougou in Ouagadougou
FITMO is Ouagadougou's biennial theatre and puppetry festival, founded in 1989 and based at the Gambidi cultural space, staging professional productions from across Francophone Africa alongside dance, storytelling, and visual arts since its 2007 expansion. Recent editions have run joint programming alongside the Rendez-Vous Chez Nous performing arts festival, extending its reach without diluting its founding focus on staged performance traditions.
Jean-Pierre Guingane launched what became FITMO in Ouagadougou in 1989, and the festival adopted its current puppet-and-theatre name in 1994 after opening to marionette performance a few years into its run.
