Kampong Cham Water Festival in Kampong Cham
Kampong Cham's Water Festival is the Mekong-side provincial edition of Cambodia's nationwide Bon Om Touk holiday, marked by longboat races on the river and riverside food stalls and music through the evening. The province is also known for fielding some of the country's largest rowing crews at the main Phnom Penh regatta. Independent detail on a distinct, large-scale local Kampong Cham event is thinner than for some other provinces, though the Mekong-side celebration itself is real and recurring.
Kampong Cham sits directly on the Mekong River, and when Bon Om Touk arrives on the lunar calendar each year, the provincial capital's riverside promenade becomes the natural gathering point for boat racing, food stalls, and evening crowds.
