Angkor Wat International Half Marathon in Siem Reap/Angkor Wat
The Angkor Wat International Half Marathon, launched in 1996 to raise awareness of Cambodia's landmine crisis, runs each December through the causeways and temple approaches of the Angkor Archaeological Park. Grown from roughly 300 runners to well over ten thousand across several race distances, it funds prosthetics and rehabilitation for landmine survivors and support for children's hospitals, making it as much a humanitarian cause as an international road race.
The Angkor Wat International Half Marathon began in 1996 with roughly 300 runners, most of them supported by Japanese running enthusiasts and NGO volunteers, and has grown into one of the largest running events in Southeast Asia, drawing well over ten thousand participants from dozens of countries in recent editions.
