Nunavut Quest in Igloolik
Each spring, the Nunavut Quest sends dog sled teams across roughly 500 kilometers of the High Arctic over eight days, sponsored by the Qikiqtani Inuit Association to preserve traditional Inuit dogsledding. The 2026 edition, its 27th year, ran from Igloolik to Pond Inlet starting April 9, with nine competitors racing; Jinneal Nanuraq Uttak won for the third consecutive year in a time of 28 hours, 14 minutes, and 49 seconds, earning a 20,000 dollar prize.
Each spring, as the High Arctic light lengthens but the cold remains fierce, the Nunavut Quest sends a small field of dog sled teams across roughly 500 kilometers of Arctic terrain, a race sponsored by the Qikiqtani Inuit Association with a purpose that goes beyond competition: keeping traditional Inuit dogsledding alive.
