Shambhala Music Festival in Salmo

Shambhala Music Festival turns a family-owned farm in the West Kootenays into a four-day electronic-music campground each summer, built around themed stages such as the Fractal Forest and the Pagoda rather than a single headline-driven main stage. First held in 1998 as a backyard gathering, it has grown into one of Canada's most distinctive independent camping festivals, known as much for its production design and harm-reduction culture as for its lineup.

A working farm in the West Kootenays becomes one of Canada's most recognizable electronic-music campgrounds for four days each summer, when Shambhala Music Festival takes over the Bulyea family's Salmo River Ranch.
