The story

Ironman 70.3 Pucon in Pucon

Held each January on the shores of Lake Villarrica with the active Villarrica Volcano as backdrop, this half-distance triathlon combines a 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 21.1km run through Pucon's volcanic countryside. Running for more than three decades, it is widely marketed as one of the most scenic races in the sport and draws both elite international triathletes and amateur age-groupers.

Pucon's Ironman 70.3 has earned a reputation among the global triathlon circuit as one of the sport's most scenic half-distance races, staged on the shores of Lake Villarrica with the snow-capped, still-active Villarrica Volcano visible across the water for much of the course.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

The combination of an active volcano, a clear glacial lake and Pucon's surrounding forested countryside gives this race a backdrop few other Ironman-branded events can match, a point organizers and Chilean sports media lean on heavily in promoting it as among the most beautiful courses in the sport

02

The mystery stays covered

Its longevity, more than three decades of continuous editions, also makes it one of the more established triathlon fixtures in South America, predating many newer regional Ironman races
