Red Bull Valparaiso Cerro Abajo in Valparaíso

Since 2003, this urban downhill mountain bike race has dropped riders 1.65 kilometers from Cerro Carcel to Plaza Anibal Pinto through Valparaiso's steep hillside streets, nearly 280 stairs and narrow alleyways. Widely called the world's largest urban downhill race, it draws elite riders from around the globe and tens of thousands of spectators lining the route each year.

Red Bull Valparaiso Cerro Abajo began in 2003 as a promotional stunt for a cycling magazine, Contrapedal, when organizers Victor Heresmann and Nicolas Barros put together a downhill race through the Cerro Alegre and Cerro Concepcion neighborhoods with just 28 riders.
