Shanghai Cherry Blossom Festival in Gucun Park/Shanghai
Gucun Park in Shanghai's Baoshan district holds one of China's largest cultivated cherry blossom collections - over 16,000 trees across 120-plus varieties - and has run its dedicated Cherry Blossom Festival since 2011. The bloom season stretches from mid-March into April, drawing crowds that have topped a million visitors in a single year.
Gucun Park's cherry collection did not exist a generation ago - the park's first stage only opened in 2009 - yet its Shanghai Cherry Blossom Festival, running since 2011, now draws crowds that rival much older festivals elsewhere in China.
