Hangzhou Xixi Dragon Boat Festival in Hangzhou/Xixi Wetland
Xixi National Wetland Park's Dragon Boat Festival, known locally as the Jiangcun Dragon Boat Competition, dates to the Southern Song dynasty and was formally named by the Qianlong Emperor. Distinctive boat styles - Full Sky Decoration, Bare-Chested and Water-Splashing dragon boats among them - race through the park's narrow wetland channels rather than open water.
Xixi National Wetland Park, a network of narrow waterways just five kilometres from West Lake, hosts a Dragon Boat Festival built around boat styles found nowhere else in the standard telling of the tradition.
