Nanchang International Military Music Festival in Nanchang
Running since 2006 in Nanchang, the birthplace city of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, this festival brings military bands from around a dozen countries together with Chinese military and school wind ensembles across a multi-day programme of parades, concerts and a closing ceremony, with anniversary editions drawing crowds reported in the hundreds of thousands.
Nanchang's International Military Music Festival, running since 2006 and staged in the Jiangxi capital that is also home to the Museum of the August 1st Nanchang Uprising, the event marking the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, uses military band performance to draw a direct line between the city's revolutionary history and a modern international cultural event.
