Nanjing Xuanwu Lake Lotus Festival in Nanjing/Xuanwu Lake
The Xuanwu Lake Lotus Festival marks the summer bloom on Nanjing's largest urban lake, where close to 500 mu of lotus, much of it the local Xuanwu Red Lotus variety, spreads across the water between islets linked by causeways. Visitors take lake cruises among the flowers, walk paths beside surviving Ming-dynasty city wall, and browse a dedicated garden of over 200 potted lotus cultivars, making it as much a horticultural showcase as a lakeside outing.
Close to 500 mu of lotus cover parts of Xuanwu Lake by midsummer, most of it the deep-pink Xuanwu Red Lotus bred and multiplied specifically for this park, with white-flowered varieties mixed in around the smaller islets.
